Mooring Hooks – Quick Release Mooring Hooks can be supplied in capacities up to 2000 KN safe working load per hook. These can be supplied in single units or clusters of up to six hooks mounted on a common base plate. Accessories include electric capstans surmounted on the hook units, hydraulic or pneumatic release from a remote station and load monitoring systems. Special types of hooks of the pelican type or for buoy mooring are a regular feature. The mechanism employed is user friendly and requires minimum maintenance. Mooring hooks of various types have been supplied by us since 1990 to various port trusts, petrochemical complexes, oil and gas terminals.

General Specifications:

  • Nautilus Mooring Hooks can be supplied in sets of one, two, three, four, five and six hooks mounted on a common base, dimensional details will be furnished on request.
  • Mooring Hooks can also be supplied in configuration of back to back or as specifically required.
  • Galvanised Steel Foundation bolts, with templates of the base plate, are supplied in advance for embedding in the civil work. Foundation bolts are manufactured from steel conforming to B.S.970 En8.
  • The vertical and horizontal movement of each quick release mooring hook of the multiple hook assemblies are independent of the other hooks.
  • Each Quick release mooring hook can swivel from -10 degrees upto +45 degrees above the horizontal.
  • In the horizontal plane the movement is +/-45 degrees with external hooks of each unit being able to accept the angles of +90,-45 degrees or +45 degrees, -90 horizontal as appropriate.
  • The quick release mooring hooks are self-supporting and the lowest part of the open hook is well above the top surface of the base plate and cannot touch the deck ( to prevent sparking) nor require sliding plates.
  • The hooks are free swiveling and non ferrous bushes and grease nipples for lubrication are provided wherever necessary to prevent jamming and sticking.
  • Minimum maintenance is required.
  • The horizontal pin is removable and the hooks are dismountable.
  • Each hook can accommodate three mooring ropes of 50mm diameter or one rope of 150 diameter.
  • The hooks are balanced and can be reset in one motion into the closed position by a single person using one hand with minimum effort.
  • Each hook can be swung into position by one person.
  • Our mooring hooks are manufactured from heavy steel plates. Cast steel, cast iron or forgings are not used for manufacture of any components.
  • Certificates of material tests will be provided with supplies in a separate document.
  • Rubber blocks are provided at the stoppers to absorb the impact of the hook during release.
  • The entire mooring hook assemblies are insulated from the deck.
  • Our mooring hooks are tested under the inspection of the Indian Register of Shipping and their certificates will accompany the supplies. Certificates from Indian Register of Shipping, whose quality system is certified to conform to IACS quality system requirements and to applicable requirements of ISO 9001. However, the mooring hooks can also be supplied with certification by any international classification society of the users choice.
  • The design of our mooring hooks are based on a factor of safety over 5.
  • We ensure that the maximum stress in the hook when subjected to the proof load does not exceed 75% of the yield stress of the raw material used.
  • The hooks are manufactured from steel conforming to IS:1030 GR 340-570N.
  • Each assembly is provided with a detachable level for manual release.
  • Under full load conditions the manual effort to pull does not exceed 18kgf.
  • Hooks will lock back automatically after release if there is a minimum load of 5 to 7 tonnes on the mooring lines.
